SKI RESORT OF THE WEEK: SÖLDEN

Best ski resort: Our recommendation for the weekend (5th - 6th December)

In our new column we present you at the start of the weekend every week ski resorts that; already have good snow conditions, are awaiting lots of new snow, or are absolutely worth a trip for other reasons.

For this weekend (5th-6th December 2015) we recommend Sölden!

Snow

On the mountain peak (3200m) you can prepare yourselves to plummet down slopes that are in great conditions (137cm snow height). By the middle station there is approximately around 20cm snow, meanwhile in the valley you will be still waiting for snow. The last snowfall fell here on (Tuesday 1st December).

Weather

Saturday morning will be foggy with limited visibility before it will brighten up and eventually the sun will shine through. On Sunday it will be relatively similar, lots of sunshine with less cloud-cover than Saturday. Additionally, it will not be too cold. The temperature of the high-lying positions will be around the minus degree mark. Sounds like wonderful forecast for going skiing!

Slopes and Lifts

In Sölden, you have the advantage that in conjunction with the designated winter skiing area there is also an additional skiing area on the glacier. In this area there are already 8 out of 10 lifts running, whereas there are 13 of 23 lifts running for the rest of the resort, thus meaning that there is already 100km of slopes available for you to ski on this weekend.

Special

Those who have seen the new James Bond Film “Spectre” and asked themselves, where the impressive shot of the summit with the extravagant building was taken, that is the new feature on “Gaislachkogl”. If you glance through the huge glass panels you will have a stunning panorama of the Ötztal landscape, this would surely be a once in a lifetime experience. Find more photos here.

Adults pay €50 for a day pass, teenagers rates start from €38.50 and for children it is €25.50 a day.
